Each Pokemon has unique moves and abilities, and players must use strategy to defeat their opponents in battle. The game features turn-based battles, in which players select moves for their Pokemon to use against their opponents. They then set out on a journey to explore Kanto, catching and training new Pokemon, battling other trainers, and collecting gym badges to qualify for the Pokemon League. Players start the game by choosing a starter Pokemon from three options: Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle.
